Prof. Ullich Steiner is the Humphrey Plummer Professor of Physics of Materials. He received his undergraduate and PhD degrees in physics from Konstanz University (Germany). After research fellowships at the Weizmann Institute (Israel), the Institute Charles Sadron, Strasbourg (France), and University of Konstanz, he was the Professor of Polymer Chemistry at the University of Groningen (Netherlands) from 1999 – 2004. He was awarded the Raymond and Beverely Sackler Prize in the Physical Sciences in 2002. Prof. Steiner is the author or co-author of more than 70 publications, including Nature, Science, Nature Mater., Phys. Rev. Lett., Adv. Mater. Energy Environ. Sci. and so on.

 

报告摘要

The device performance of organic or organic/inorganic hybrid photovoltaic materials depends sensitively on the morphology of the photoactive layer. The use of block-copolymer morphologies to generate co-continuous

morphologies by self-assembly is conceptionally attractive because the intrinsic periodicity of coil-coil block-copolymer of 10 nm matches the electronic requirements imposed by semiconducting organic materials.

In this talk, Prof. Steiner will introduce strategies in which block-copolymers are used as structural motives in photovoltaic devices and other functional materials. Among other topics he will talk about the use of block-copolymers as molecular scaffolds for metal-oxides in dye-sensitized solar cells and as structure-directing agents for sol gel-chemistries.
